System overview
The U Button is applied against the caudal aspect of the cricoid cartilage to anchor the prosthetic laryngoplasty suture and secure the cricoid attachment.
It is used together with the Ring Screw at the muscular process. Two widths are available: 7 mm for most cases, and 9 mm for Dynamic Neuroprosthesis (DNP) cases.
Advantages: reinforced suture anchorage on the cricoid; compatible with standard suture passers and sutures; the 9 mm size avoids impinging on the cricoarytenoid dorsalis muscle in DNP cases.
Limitations: the size must be chosen according to cricoid thickness and CAD muscle volume; a suture passer and careful tensioning are needed to seat the button firmly against the cricoid.
